Getting in the zone
Yesterday I had a short-notice chance to head up to Deception Pass and Smith Island to photograph birds (thanks Mike!). I’ll share some of those images later, here are some of the pictures I took before and after the bird photography.
Over the last couple months I’ve learned a couple lessons about photography:
It takes quite awhile to get into the zone. By “awhile” I don’t mean a few minutes or hours, but it takes days or weeks of consistently thinking about photos to start seeing in photos.
Being in the zone helps me trust that my photos are good. These pictures are of a wide range of subjects but they feel like they’re consistent to my always-evolving style.
Being in the zone is more about knowing what not to take a picture of more than it’s about what to take a picture of. It’s counterintuitive, but I’m pretty sure it’s true.
Until tomorrow.
